Sonne, los jetzt!
By Elfriede Jelinek
Staging: Nicolas Stemann
- 50% Lichtschutzfaktor

- 100% Jelinek
There’s hardly an author who fires salvos into the global political situation more eloquently than Elfriede Jelinek. So it was only a matter of time before she would take on the topic of climate change and give us a good telling off. With due detachment, Jelinek examines man’s toils and troubles in his environment, lending her voice to the sun. In a brilliant monologue she sheds light on Greek mythology, on Wittgenstein – and on the beach. There, man lives on a coastal strip, a thin line between scorching embers and devouring tide. If the sun had its way, it would flare up and then disappear. But maybe, in the end, its warmth might dry a few tears and doom might stay away (for now).
Sonne, los jetzt! is the first time in a long time that a Jelinek script has premiered at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. Nicolas Stemann and Elfriede Jelinek are old companions. The co-artistic director has already produced ten plays and premieres by the Austrian Nobel Prize winner. Now, for the first time, he presents himself to Zurich audiences as an energetic consildator of Jelinek’s linguistic forces. The text was written at the suggestion of Doris Uhlich.
