About Season 22/23
In seven short videos, Trajal Harrell, Nicolas Stemann, Yana Ross, Christopher Rüping, Suna Gürler, Wu Tsang and Stas Zhyrkov talk about their plans for the upcoming theatre season. You can look forward to adaptations of classics such as Oedipus by Nicolas Stemann, Pinocchio by Wu Tsang and Moved by the Motion, Antigone by the Ukrainian director Stas Zhyrkov or Arthur Schnitzler's Reigen by Yana Ross, based on texts by ten contemporary authors. In addition, two new works by Trajal Harrell and the Schauspielhaus Zürich Dance Ensemble and by Christopher Rüping, who tackles in Gier a text by Sarah Kane and in Border gets inspired by the film Gräns by Ali Abbasi. Suna Gürler is once again working on a production in which young non-professional players will take over the stage of Pfauen. And in the first half of the season she will premiere Kleine Fische (AT), a work in which she sets out of the search of the men* of the future. Also Leonie Böhm and Christiane Jatahy will stay close to us, an overview about all the premieres of the upcoming season can be found at the end of this article.

Trajal Harrell
Trajal Harrell talks about his production The House of Bernarda Alba that will open the upcoming season at Pfauen, and The Romeo, his second work of the 22/23 season centered around the "utopian idea" of a dance that people of all origins, genders and generations, of all tempers and moods, perform when they have left their tragedies behind and are just dancing.
Nicolas Stemann
Nicolas Stemann on Oedipus Tyrann, a work he will stage together with the two actors Alicia Aumüller und Patrycia Ziółkowska, on the world premiere of a text by Elfriede Jelinek called Sonne, los jetzt!, on Contre-enquêtes as well as about Riesenhaft in Mittelerde, a collaboration with Theater Hora loosely based on themes from Lord of the Rings.
Christopher Rüping
Christopher Rüping speaks about Border, his new staging for the Schiffbau-Halle which is inspired by the film Gräns by Ali Abbasi, and about Gier, his new work based on the text Greed by Sarah Kane from 1990, which he will premiere at Pfauen
Yana Ross
Yana Ross on her staging of Reigen, after Arthur Schnitzler, which premiered at the Salzburger Festspiele and will be shown at Pfauen in the season 22/23. For Yana Ross’s production, ten internationally renowned authors bring the material into the present day: Lydia Haider, Sofi Oksanen, Leïla Slimani, Sharon Dodua Otoo, Leif Randt, Mikhail Durnenkov, Hengameh Yaghoobifarah, Kata Wéber, Jonas Hassen Khemiri and Lukas Bärfuss have each rewritten one of the ten scenes of Schnitzler’s play.
Suna Gürler
Suna Gürler speaks about her new work Kleine Fische (AT/WT), in which she will set out together with a few male players in search of the men of the future, again based on a text written by Lucien Haug. Gürler als speaks about a new production that will premiere in February 2023 and once again takes over the Pfauen with the help of young people on stage
Wu Tsang
Wu Tsang talks about Pinocchio at the Pfauen and about A Wild Piece of Wood, a festival with film installations in the spring of 2023 at the Zeughaus that focusses on topics which will also be adressed in Pinocchio. Surrounding a Virtual Reality video installation on the lower floor of the Zeughaus, the cosmos Moved by the Motion materializes through concerts, panel discussions, performative vignettes and study groups
Stas Zhyrkov
Stas Zhyrkov talks about Antigone, a production the Ukrainian director of the Kyiv Left Bank Theatre will stage at Pfauen in spring 2023. With the Ukrainian Antigone, the Schauspielhaus Zürich is endeavoring to continue its tradition as a theater in exile
