Sweatshop – Deadly Fashion
The Norwegian web series “Sweatshop – Deadly Fashion,” which has been streamed millions of times, accompanies three young fashion bloggers as they visit the textile factories of Phnom Penh, confronting the good-looking, trend-conscious twenty-somethings with the question of the responsibility they bear – as privileged young people from an industrialised nation – with respect to the ignored suffering of their contemporaries in emerging countries. Based on themes in the series, together with young performers from the junges theater basel and the ensemble of the Schauspielhaus Zürich, Sebastian Nübling has developed a play about the world in front of as well as behind the dazzling catwalk, and asks about the connection between sex appeal, greed and the production chains of a system that has made us addicts within a few short years. A surreal journey into the dark heart of the globalised fashion industry.
