Ruth Dreifuss

Ruth Dreifuss is a Swiss politician and former Federal Councillor. In 1981, she was elected Central Secretary of the Swiss Federation of the Unions, where she worked until her election to the Federal Council in 1993. In 1999, she became the first female President of the Swiss Confederation. She was also the first social democratic woman and the first person of Jewish origin in the Federal Council.
